Overflow Protection, Boost Mode, and Cancel Features
There are a few features on Hummingbird that may not be apparently obvious when first using this machine. Here is a video overview of these "hidden features":
Avoiding Press Overflow in Hummingbird
If you're just getting into using a real juice press instead of other methods, you may run into an issue where you attempt to press too much, or the recipe is too "mushy" to press correctly. This can cause the press to overflow. Don't worry! hummingbird has a press overflow detection feature which is a sensor that pauses the press if it senses an overflow event, instead of making a mess on your counter. Avoiding Press Overflow For starters, we recommend using smaller batch sizes when getting a feel for the juicer's limits. Limit the batches to 2 lbs on Hummingbird Pro, and 4 lbs on Hummingbird Pro XL. One you get comfortable on the juicer, you can increase to the max. Additionally, it's important to keep in mind that "mushy" items like pineapple and citrus need more room to expand for juice extraction than for fibrous items like root vegetables or greens. So, if your recipe includes much of the "mushy" items, we recommend a smaller batch size. We have an in-depth article about this on our blog.

Goodnature Hummingbird - Prevent Breaking Press Bags (with video)
How to Prevent Fresh Filter Bags from Tearing in Your Goodnature Hummingbird FreshFilter bags are single-use, so an occasional tear is nothing to worry about — just pull the bag out, discard it, and move on. But if your bags are tearing frequently, there's almost always one culprit: the front press rack is installed backwards. Here's why that happens, and how to fix it. Why Backwards Racks Tear Bags When the press is assembled correctly, the bottom rack and front rack fit together like Legos, leaving no gaps. Small interconnects at the bottom of each rack seat into one another and form a tight seal. If the front rack is installed backwards, those interconnects can't engage, leaving a small gap where the two racks meet. That gap might not look like much, but under the full force of the press, too much pressure builds up where the gaps are, and this can cause the bag to tear. How to Assemble the Press Correctly Place the bottom rack inside the press. Insert the front rack, checking the pin orientation. The front rack has small pins that are designed to grab the bag after you fold the top flaps over. Make sure these pins are pointing outward — if they are, the rack is facing the right way. Push the front rack fully down. The interlocks on the two racks should be firmly seated in each other. If you can see a gap where the racks meet, the front rack either isn't pushed down all the way or is installed backwards. Insert the platen. Load the bag. Push the filter bag in, fold the flaps over the top, place it in the press, and you're ready to juice. Still Having Trouble? This fix solves tearing issues about 99% of the time. If you've double-checked your rack orientation and bags are still breaking, reach out to our support team, we're standing by and happy help. Contact us at support@goodnature.com to get started.
Goodnature Hummingbird - How to Lubricate the Press Rod
How to Lubricate the Press Rod on Your Goodnature Hummingbird If you're hearing unusual noises while your Hummingbird is pressing (sometimes a bang or knocking sound), it's often caused by friction where the press rod meets the seal. The rod can catch slightly as it moves, and the fix is simple: a little oil. What to Use We recommend a food grade lubricant. Our preferred product is Super Lube H3 lightweight oil, a food grade oil used in food manufacturing facilities. In a pinch, olive oil also works. Just note that olive oil can build up residue over time, so food grade lubricant is the better long-term choice. Step-by-Step Instructions Turn on your machine. Remove the moving platen, then lower the grinder. Run the press cycle, and wait for the press rod to fully extend. Tip: you can speed this up with boost mode — hold the Press button to activate it. Lift the hopper once the rod is fully extended. This stops the press rod from moving — it's a built-in safety feature. Apply the lubricant. Put a small amount of food grade grease (or olive oil) on a towel and rub it around the press rod. You don't need much, just enough to eliminate the friction. Close the hopper and press Stop to retract the press rod. That's it! You're ready for your next juice batch. Need a Hand? If you're still hearing noises after lubricating the rod, or need any extra assistance, reach out to our support team at support@goodnature.com and we'll be happy to help.

Max press capacity: Pro 1.5-3 lbs / 1.2 kg; Pro XL 3-6 lbs / 2.3 kg - depends on recipe Max batch size: Pro 28–36 fl oz / 800–1,000 ml; Pro XL 50–75 fl oz / 1.5–2.2 l Juice container: Pro 85 oz / 2.5 l; Pro XL 120 oz / 3.5 l Which model should I choose for my business? Businesses selling bottled juice should choose the Hummingbird Pro XL. Homes, cocktail bars and other lower-volume uses can consider the Pro, but might still prefer the XL. If you're not sure which machine fits your volume, our Which Goodnature Juicer is Right for Me? guide can help, or request a quote to talk to a juicing expert. How much juice can Hummingbird make per hour? In 12 oz (350 ml) bottles, with a variety of recipes: Hummingbird Pro: typically 15–20 bottles per hour, up to 25–30 with an optimized workflow and recipes. Hummingbird Pro XL: typically 25–35 bottles per hour, up to 50–60 with an optimized workflow and recipes. Achieving maximum output depends on your recipes and workflow. A standard grind and press cycle is about 5-8 minutes (1-3 minutes to grind, 4 minutes to press). For tips on getting the most out of each hour, see Juicing in Bulk on Goodnature Hummingbird. Is Hummingbird for home or commercial use? Both. Hummingbird Pro and Pro XL can be used at home or in demanding commercial environments, and both are NSF certified for foodservice. Is Hummingbird NSF certified? Yes, both Hummingbird Pro and Pro XL are NSF certified. How big is Hummingbird? Will it fit under my cabinets? ReadyGrind Kit: a full grinder kit with a hopper assembly, pusher, blade assembly and grind base. Can be easily removed and swapped between recipes. Press Kit: a press chamber, moving platen, front press rack and bottom press rack. Can be easily lifted out and swapped between recipes. For businesses, the Business Essentials bundle includes 1,000 FreshFilter bags, a ReadyGrind Kit, a Press Kit and 3 Recipe Bins. How do I clean Hummingbird? The food contact parts can go in a dishwasher on the top rack, without a heat or steam cycle, but some dishwashers run hot enough to warp the plastic parts, so hand washing is preferred. Watch How to Clean Goodnature Hummingbird for the full routine. Do I need to cut or peel produce? Very little prep is needed. Cut produce into long slices rather than small chunks; long items like carrots and celery don't need cutting. You don't need to remove seeds from apples or lemons, but remove pits from fruit like cherries and peaches. We recommend peeling citrus, since the oil in the peel is quite bitter, however some customer prefer to leave the peel on and cut citrus into halves or quarters. Can Hummingbird juice leafy greens? Yes. Alternate leafy greens with firmer produce like apples or cucumbers as you feed the grinder. Can hummingbird juice wheatgrass? Wheatgrass works best blended with other ingredients; cut any wheatgrass longer than about 3 inches down before grinding. Can Hummingbird juice root vegetables like ginger? Absolutely, in fact Hummingbird is the best juicer for tough roots like ginger. Ginger does not need to be peeled. Simply break it by hand into manageable sized chunks and feed it into the grinder. Check out this video demonstration of juicing over 6 lbs of ginger in a single press with Hummingbird Pro XL. Can Hummingbird juice soft fruit like berries, mango or pineapple? Yes, in smaller batches. Mushy fruit like berries, pineapple and mango needs more room to expand in the press, so press it in smaller batches. Bananas and avocados are better blended than pressed. See Avoiding Press Overflow in Hummingbird. Can Hummingbird make nut milk? Yes. Watch How to Make Nut Milk on Goodnature Hummingbird. Soak the nuts, feed them through the grinder with water, and press. Is Hummingbird good for made-to-order juice? Yes. Although Hummingbird is designed for batch juicing, "boost mode" reduces the press time from about four minutes to about two, so you can serve fresh made-to-order juice in under three minutes. See Making Made-to-Order Juice on Hummingbird. What do overflow protection, boost mode and cancel do? Overflow protection: a sensor pauses the press and shows "overflow" if it detects an overflow, instead of making a mess on your counter. Boost mode: hold the Press button to speed up the press. Cancel: press Stop once to pause; press it again to cancel and back the press up. Watch Overflow Protection, Boost Mode, and Cancel Features. To avoid overflows while you're getting started, limit batches to 2 lbs on the Pro and 4 lbs on the Pro XL, and use smaller batches for "mushy" recipes. See Avoiding Press Overflow in Hummingbird. Why are my press bags breaking? Almost always, the front press rack is installed backwards. See Prevent Breaking Press Bags for how to install it correctly. What maintenance does Hummingbird need? Hummingbird is mechanical, not hydraulic, so there's no hydraulic oil to check or change. Clean it thoroughly after every session. If you hear a bang or knocking sound while pressing, lubricate the press rod with a food-grade lubricant. See How to Lubricate the Press Rod. Full maintenance instructions are in the Hummingbird User Manual. Is there a warranty? Yes. Hummingbird comes with a 1-year warranty.
